“The road to hell is paved with adverbs.”
Life made simple 🙂
I’ve been using Autocrit to get rid of my adverbs. It’s ruthless.
I read that in his book on writing. He really hates adverbs! But he also uses them! 😉
I understand the premise because the ly adverbs lend themselves to telling rather than showing, but it’s so hard not to use them. Especially in dialogue tags.
You got that right. There are some very good words out there that are branded as bad just because they are adverbily-challenged!
You just invented a new word! I’m adding it to my Word dictionary.
I don’t know, I think the occasional well-placed adverb does a lot of good…emphasis on occasional. This is something I’m still working on, too – sometimes I get a little carried away. 😉
I agree, but don’t tell anyone.
